DMD TONGJI
DMD TONGJI (Dual Master Degree Programme _ Tongji University)
CAUP_Tongji University and ETSAB_UPC signed their agreement on carrying out the dual master degree programme between the two schools in 2015. The aim of the double master degree is to create a platform for an integrated, international academic programme in architecture studies.
Supported by Tongji-UPC DMD, MBArch students at CAUP-Tongji will enjoy the opportunity to familiarize themselves first-hand with one of the most cultural dynamic regions of the world, and they will have the chance to participate academic projects designed to be interdisciplinary.
DMD is a two-year system programme. Tongji Students stay in Shanghai for the 1st year and come to Barcelona for the 2nd year. ETSAB students study in Barcelona for the 1st year, and will study in Tongji for the 2nd year. After successful completion of the complete programme at both universities, the students receive the degrees of both universities, “Master of Architecture” of CAUP_Tongji University and “Master's degree in Advanced Studies in Architecture-Barcelona” of ETSAB_UPC.

INFORMATION FOR MBArch ETSAB STUDENTS

Places
Each year DMD TONGJI program offers 3 places, addressed to the ETSAB students of the MBArch (Master's Degree in Advanced Studies in Architecture-Barcelona)
According to the conditions of the DMD agreement, the selected ETSAB student will spend two semesters at CAUP_TONGJI. Upon successful completion of the academic program, the student will be awarded both degrees: Master in Architecture from CAUP-Tongji University and MBArch from ETSAB-UPC.
Academic Program
The Master in Architecture at CAUP_TONGJI lasts 2,5 years and consists of 36 local credits.
The MBArch at ETSAB_UPC lasts 1 year and consists of 60 ECTS.
While in Shanghai, the DMD ETSAB student will enrol 24 local credits (approximately 30 ECTS) among courses offered in English in the Master in Architecture and the Tongji International School program. Another 12 credits will be recognized for the MBArch studies already completed at the ETSAB

In addition, the students must develop and present the TFM (Final Master's Thesis) at Tongji University, in agreement with the ETSAB tutor and a tutor from CAUP.
The TFM will also be presented and defended at the ETSAB upon the student's return to Barcelona. At the end of the stay in Shanghai, the subjects studied at Tongji will have an academic recognition equivalent to 5 elective ECTS of the MBArch.
MBArch enrolment conditions
At the time of the first enrolment in the MBArch, the student who plan to apply for the DMD programme should not ENROL THE TFM (Final Master's Thesis) in that same year. The programme's academic requirements state that the TFM should be enroled in the following year, when the student will be in China, and defend the TFM in-person upon returning to Barcelona.

Requirements
To be eligible for a DMD place, candidates must meet the following requirements at the time of application:
- Be currently enrolled in the MBArch program at ETSAB (Master's Degree in Advanced Studies in Architecture-Barcelona).
- Meet the admission requirements of the host university, especially the language level certification (ENGLISH level B2 CEFR > TOEFL 80 / IELTS 6.0 / or equivalent) Note: Chinese national students are excluded from this call according to the admission criteria established by Tongji University in the DMD bilateral agreement
- Be able to enrol and develop the TFM in the next academic year in which the DMD stay will be carried out, enrolling also in the mobility modality 5 additional elective ECTS to be recognised. (The TFM topic must be approved by the ETSAB tutor in common agreement with the tutor appointed at the CAUP_TONGJI)

step 2_ Submit within the specified dates the ORIGINAL language certificate provided in the application at the ETSAB International Relations Office, during public service hours.
Selection
The students will be selected based on academic aspects, taking into consideration the criteria of the DMD program and the admission requirements of the host university. For this purpose, the documentation provided by the candidates in their application will be reviewed, in addition to the academic records of the MBArch and the master's entrance qualification

Terms and Conditions
The acceptance of the DMD place implies a commitment to fulfil the assigned mobility stay and successfully complete the proposed academic program. Any non-justified withdrawal from the DMD place after the specified deadlines will result in restrictions on future calls, loss of academic recognition and reimbursement of any received financial aid.
The student is responsible for completing the admission procedures at the host university within the required deadlines, and the procedures for obtaining the degree at the end of the stay. Participation in the DMD programme will only be accredited and the double degree will be awarded to students who successfully complete the assigned mobility stay with the required academic achievement and in due time.
The DMD student pays tuition and academic fees at the home university. While studying in China, the student will be enrolled at the ETSAB-UPC as outgoing mobility student and cannot enrol or attend any courses at the ETSAB as a regular student, except for the Final Master Thesis (TFM).
Enrolment in the UPC as an outgoing mobility student includes the subscription of a compulsory insurance policy.
ENROLMENT: in the academic year in which the DMD stay will be carried out, a DMD student will enrol in the ETSAB:
5 ECTS in modality of “mobility enrolment” (corresponding to 1 MBArch elective subject to be acknowledge for the courses taken in Shanghai)

15 ECTS of the Final Master's Thesis that will be defended at ETSAB once the stay in Tongji is completed (extraordinary TFM call in October)
Admission
Once selected by the ETSAB, the student must complete the admission application to the Chinese university as an EXCHANGE STUDENT (DUAL-DEGREE) within the specified deadlines.

Grants / Fees
The DMD agreement provides the selected ETSAB students with a 100% exemption from the cost of tuition fees in the CAUP-TONGJI. Accommodation and maintenance expenses, as well as travel costs in Shanghai are the responsibility of the student.
If requirements are met, the DMD place offers the opportunity to apply for MOBINT grants from the AGAUR (Generalitat)
