Permanence-2020-21

The regulation of permanence (point 5 of Academic Regulation of Degree and Master Studies -Normativa Académica de Los Estudios de Grado y Máster- NAGRAM) approved by social council on May 5th, 2014, in its preamble determines its scope of action and specifically formulates the follow-up that must be undertaken of the student's performance once have approved the initial stage of degree studies. Specifically "provides for follow-up in the non-initial phase of academic progress of the students and an individualized performance in cases of low performance, which, with the teaching and evaluation criteria that considers the study plan, must be exceptional".

The Permanent Commission of the School, in function of their attributions, establishes the academic rules, which complement the tutorial actions, that must be applied when a student's performance parameter (Ratio of credits approved on enrolled credits, excluding from this computation the credits of recognized or validated subjects ) is less than 0'5.

 

"In function of this parameter, the center makes the follow-up of the student's progress and establish, to ensure a good use of the resources, the academic advisory mechanisms through the process of tutorial. Likewise, determine the academic measures to be applied when the student's parameter is lower to 0,5 in the last two academic periods enrolled, in the case of quaterly academic periods, or in the last academic period enrolled, in the case of these academic periods are annuals. This regulation may entail a limitation of enrollment, apart of the limitations established with general character. The student may attend to the director or the dean of the center against the decisions of the mentor.

Regardless of this, it's established as a common referent to all the study plans of the degree of the UPC the automatic untying of studies, except for conveniently justified cases, to all the students with parameter of academic results below 0,3 in the last 3 academic periods, in the case of quarter academic period, or in the last academic period , in the case of annual academic periods.

 

These regulations are the next ones:

  1. The School assigns a tutor to each of the students who, during an academic year, obtain a performance parameter below 0.5 to advise about the subjects that should enrol and do the academic follow-up. If, also, this performance parameter is lower than 0,3 this student will have limited his/her enrollment of the next year to a maximum of 45 ECTS.
  2. During the first year with an assigned tutor, the follow-up of the performance obtained will be performed and will apply the following regulations in function of the results of this parameter:
    1. Students that obtain a performance equal or higher to 0,5: may continue his/her studies without a tutor or limitation of enrolment.   
    2. Students that obtain a performance below 0,5 and equal or higher to 0,3: will have limited enrolment in the next year to 45 ECTS and the same tutor will make the academic follow up.
    3. Students that obtain a performance below to 0,3 and the previous year had a performance below to 0,5 and equal or higher to 0,3: will have limited enrollment of the next academic year to 45 ECTS and the same tutor will make the academic following up.
    4. Students that obtain a performance below to 0,3 for the second year in a row: will be proposed to the Rector to be disengaged from studies for a period of one year.
  3. The School will arbitrate the appropriate actions to assign a new tutor, to tutor request and/or the student, and always in case rightly justified.     

 

Application and communication process

  1. The academic performance will be carried out to the end of the evaluation of each academic year and will analyze the las two courses consecutively of the non initial stage enrolled by the student. If during an academic year the student has not enrolled any subjects will not be taken in consideration to the effects of this regulation and performance the next course where there's enrollment.
  2. The following group will be excluded from the application of the academic regulations:
    1. The students that have not approved completly the initial stage. So, those courses where there's enrollment of initial stage and non initial stage will not have in count to the effects of these regulations.    
    2. The students who is only missing to finish their studies a number of credits of subjects below or equal to 30 ECTS.
    3. Students participating in any mobility program during the exchange course. These students must comply with the academic regulation established upon the return of their stay at the exchange School.
  3. The academic performance of the students that take part in any program of mobility during the interchange course will not be considerate to the effects of this regulation.
  4. The School may, in rightly justified cases, and by request of the student or the tutor, not to have in consideration the parameter of performance of a determined academic year to effects of applications of this regulation. If the student already has assigned a tutor, the request must come accompanied by the favorable report of this. As a general regulation, these requests must be presented until a month before of the final of the academic period of the second semester.
  5. After each academic period, the list of students who have obtained a performance below 0.5 will be made public and the measures applied to each one of them, if appropriate. These decisions will inform the periods, conditions and procedure in which the student that considers it can make allegations to that resolution.
  6. Students who have been disengaged during an academic course could be incorporated into the studies requesting expressly to the secretariat of the school to be included in the enrollment order, until one week before the publication of this one. Its recognition will be counted again from that academic year and will not be taken in consideration the parameter of previous courses.
  7. This regulation will enter into force from 2012-2013 course and, therefore, will be at the end of this one from which the measures established in these regulations will be applied.
